Meta is Luring OpenAI Employees to Work for Them with $100M Signing Bonuses

Meta is asking OpenAI employees to work for them with $100M signing bonuses for Meta jobs. Not bad!

According to the CEO of OpenAI, Sam Altman, Meta has been offering signing bonuses of $100 million USD to OpenAI engineers who end up taking Meta jobs, apparently because Meta is trying to expand its AI strategy. According to OpenAI, not only is Meta offering hundreds of millions to those who “switch sides”, they’re also offering engineers more than USD 100 million in yearly compensation packages.

According to OpenAI, none of their best engineers have decided to go work for Meta instead of it, but at the same time, OpenAI is aware that Meta is likely thinking of them as their biggest competitor, hence the offers. On the other hand, many Meta engineers have been resigning as it is, and it remains to be seen whether people who have resigned could go on to work for OpenAI instead. If we take things literally, we can also assume that OpenAI engineers who are not considered to be among the best may have taken Meta jobs.

What Now?

With Meta jobs enticing OpenAI engineers to work for them, some people may be noting the fact that this may not be a sustainable long-term strategy for Meta and that this way, Meta could be aiming to only recruit a couple of talented engineers and be done with it. You see, according to sources on the web, Meta has around $165 billion in revenue, which grew by about 20% (around $33 billion) this year, which means that with bonuses of $100 million Meta could acquire around 16-17 employees for every 1% of its revenue that they spend. With OpenAI having more than 5,000 employees, Meta jobs couldn’t reasonably acquire everyone from OpenAI even if they wanted to spend all of their revenue on acquisitions alone.

In other words, regardless of whether developers from OpenAI start flocking towards Meta jobs or not, OpenAI will still remain a formidable foe for top software companies across the globe.

Beyond Meta Jobs: How to Stay Safe?

We got one thing out of the way – Meta jobs are unlikely to acquire the majority of OpenAI employees, and OpenAI will still be a formidable opponent to many.

Aside from that, many may be wondering what we, as developers, can do to protect ourselves not only from AI taking our jobs, but from data breaches. The good news here is that these days, we have data breach search engines like BreachDirectory.com that can be used by everyone to check whether any of their online accounts or the details related to them are at risk of a breach.

BreachDirectory.com not only allows you to search for email addresses, usernames, and IP addresses to determine if they’re stolen in a data breach, but also allow you to make sure certain Blockchain addresses aren’t connected to illegal money laundering operations, allow you to uncover the threat actors behind a certain CVE, as well as allow you to search through a wide variety of public pastes once you acquire a subscription to search through data breaches in bulk.

Make good use of the data breach search engine at BreachDirectory.com, and until next time.
